Our strength in the arts positions us to build upon the work of the Partnership of 21st century skills: The four C's Creativity, Collaboration, Communication, and Critical Thinking. These have been strongly reflected in the reputable arts integration and arts education, teacher preparation programs we offer nationwide, our partnership programs in schools and the exciting projects and scholarship by faculty. The most recent and cutting edge program which now makes the arts programs more visible nationally and internationally is the Community Arts Masters Education program (see more details and links provided in the attachment).
The Division of Creative Arts in Learning also feels very proud of its latest big Ford Foundation sponsored grant project Voices from the Field – Arts Integration. This cutting edge national arts research project involving teachers, alums of Integrated Teaching through the Arts programs, school administrators, arts educators etc. will put SOE and the University at the forefront of arts in education and social change in schools and communities nationwide (see pdf link in the attachment)
We have been engaged in arts education partnership projects in several Massachusetts schools through internships, professional developments and practicum experiences for our pre-service teachers and teaching artists. One of such distinguished partnerships is Creative Arts/Sumner School project in Boston (see link in attachment).
Finally our faculty have also done several exciting national and international projects which again elevate our reputation for education, cultural enrichment, and transformation through the arts. Louise Pascale’s Afghan Songbook project is a noteworthy example (see attachment).
From Margery Miller:
Urban Teacher Center
"The mission of The Urban Teacher Center is to prepare highly effective teachers who significantly accelerate student achievement in the nation’s highest-need schools. We will accomplish this by recruiting outstanding candidates, equipping them with state of the art training, and linking their certification to their students’ performance outcomes. Over time, these teachers will be among the most expert and results-oriented in the nation, assuming leadership roles and making the public case for better teacher preparation and educator accountability."
